BETTER CHEMISTRY. BETTER MATERIALS. BETTER BUILDINGS.
TechClad™
2-in-1 MgO Sheathing and Continuous Insulation Panels
Improve the building envelope without replacing the structure. TechClad™ combines rigid continuous insulation with magnesium cement (MgO) sheathing in one prefabricated, non-structural panel. Compatible with lumber, light gauge steel and concrete structures, it increases R-value, reduces thermal bridging and adds lasting protection against fire, moisture and mold for new construction and retrofit projects.
How It’s Used
New Construction
Install over conventional wood or steel framing to create a continuous exterior insulation layer that increases R-value and reduces thermal bridging.
Energy Retrofits & Recladding
Upgrade existing walls with added insulation and magnesium cement protection without replacing the building’s structural system.
Roofing Applications
Add continuous insulation and a durable MgO surface to roof assemblies designed for greater thermal and climate performance.

One Material. Multiple Advantages.
A panel is only as good as the material it's made from. At ZS2, we've spent years advancing magnesium cement technology through continuous formulation, manufacturing, and testing. Every improvement in the material is reflected in how the panel performs, from fire and moisture resistance to durability and long-term resilience.
Because when the chemistry is right, everything built on top of it performs better.
Naturally Fire Resistant
- Won’t contribute fuel in a fire, helping limit flame spread and improve building resilience.
- When exposed to extreme heat, chemically bound water is released as steam rather than smoke, helping dissipate heat during a fire event.
- Non-combustible by nature, without relying on added fire-retardant treatments or coatings.
Built for the Elements
- Won’t rot, swell, or delaminate like gypsum or wood-based building materials when exposed to moisture.
- Naturally resistant to mold and mildew because it doesn’t provide an organic food source for growth.
- Maintains strength and dimensional stability through changing climates, freeze-thaw cycles, and demanding jobsite conditions.
More Performance with Fewer Layers
- Combines multiple wall assembly functions into a single high-performance MgO board
- Ships flat-packed and installs using familiar framing methods, tools, and fasteners.
- Helps simplify specification, reduce trade coordination, and improve construction efficiency from design through installation.
Built for Decades
- Engineered for long-term durability with reduced maintenance and replacement over the life of the building.
- Supports resilient, lower-carbon construction without compromising performance.
- Helps owners, designers, and builders meet evolving expectations around lifecycle performance, resilience, and insurance risk.
Performs Where Gypsum Rots, OSB Burns, and Concrete Cracks.
MgO delivers the fire resistance, moisture durability, and long-term performance traditional building materials can't.

Construction Sequence
Step 1 – Prep
A two-in-one sheathing and insulation panel, TechClad™ integrates with all types of building substructure, including lumber, light gauge steel, and concrete.
Step 2 – Install
Designed for easy onsite modification, TechClad™ can be installed with the same tools and materials used for traditional sheet products. Installed vertically or horizontally, fastener spacing follows project and local build code requirements.
Step 3 – Finish
Deferring to local code and authorities having jurisdiction, TechClad™ interfaces with all typical finishing methods. Vapour and/or weather barrier are required dependent on local code.

20 years ago I built the house next door and made it energy efficient at the time. My utility bills are on average $100/month on gas and $100/month on electricity. This is the same size house and my energy bills are $30-60/month each. So it’s super energy efficient.
The house is crazy good, warm in freezing weather and unchanged on warm days. Just circulating air and the furnace barely kicks in… So quiet too, can’t hear anything outside, utilities are excellent!
Freqently Asked Questions
TechClad™ is a 2-in-1 non-structural panel that combines sheathing and insulation, then attaches to the building’s existing structure. TechPanel® is a 3-in-1 structural system that combines sheathing, insulation and structural framing to form the walls, floors or roof.
TechClad™ integrates with lumber, light gauge steel and concrete structures. This makes it a flexible option for conventionally framed new construction, exterior recladding and energy retrofits where the structure remains in place.
TechClad™ does not replace the building’s air barrier or water-resistive barrier. Those control layers remain part of the complete wall design. Their location should be determined by the project team based on climate, insulation type, vapour permeance and how the assembly is intended to dry.
TechClad™ is available with Type I EPS, Type II EPS, Graphite EPS and ROCKWOOL Comfortboard® 80. Each offers a different balance of thermal performance, wall thickness, compressive strength, vapour permeance and fire performance. ZS2 can help configure the panel around the project’s target R-value and assembly requirements.
In approved assemblies, TechClad™ can support direct attachment of conventional exterior finishes. Requirements vary based on the cladding, building structure, panel configuration and design loads. Fastener spacing, penetration and any required girts or supplementary supports should be confirmed by the project architect or building envelope engineer.
TechBoard® gives TechClad™ a non-combustible MgO surface that will not ignite or contribute fuel to a fire. Fire performance must still be evaluated across the complete wall assembly, including the selected insulation, membranes, attachments and exterior finish. The final design should meet the required construction type, fire-resistance rating and local code requirements.
Start with the wall design, building structure, target R-value, fire requirements and exterior finish. ZS2 uses this information to recommend the insulation, panel thickness and layout, then determine whether standard 4' × 8' panels or a custom configuration will provide the best fit.
