BETTER CHEMISTRY. BETTER MATERIALS. BETTER BUILDINGS.

TechBoard® T&G

MgO Tongue-and-Groove Subfloor Panel

The same climate-resilient MgO technology as TechBoard®, manufactured in a thicker 3/4" panel with interlocking edges for a faster, tighter subfloor installation. TechBoard® Tongue & Groove brings fire, moisture, mold and pest resistance to floor assemblies in a familiar panel format.

How It’s Used

Wood-Framed Subfloors

Install over wood floor framing to create a stable MgO base with interlocking edges that help maintain consistent joints and minimize panel movement.

Light-Gauge Steel Subfloors

Install over compatible light-gauge steel framing where the floor design calls for a moisture-resistant, noncombustible alternative to wood-based panels.

Base for Finished Flooring

Create a flat, durable substrate beneath compatible flooring finishes, including tile, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and carpet.

Suitability, framing spacing, fastening and finished flooring requirements must be confirmed through project specifications, applicable technical documentation and local code requirements.

One Material. Multiple Advantages.

A sheathing panel is only as good as the material it's made from. At ZS2, we've spent years advancing magnesium cement technology through
continuous formulation, manufacturing, and testing. Every improvement in the material is reflected in how the panel performs, from
fire and moisture resistance to durability and long-term resilience.

Because when the chemistry is right, everything built on top of it performs better.

Naturally Fire Resistant

  • Won’t contribute fuel in a fire, helping limit flame spread and improve building resilience.
  • When exposed to extreme heat, chemically bound water is released as steam rather than smoke, helping dissipate heat during a fire event.
  • Non-combustible by nature, without relying on added fire-retardant treatments or coatings.

Built for the Elements

  • Won’t rot, swell, or delaminate like gypsum or wood-based building materials when exposed to moisture.
  • Naturally resistant to mold and mildew because it doesn’t provide an organic food source for growth.
  • Maintains strength and dimensional stability through changing climates, freeze-thaw cycles, and demanding jobsite conditions.

More Performance with Fewer Layers

  • Combines multiple wall assembly functions into a single high-performance MgO board
  • Ships flat-packed and installs using familiar framing methods, tools, and fasteners.
  • Helps simplify specification, reduce trade coordination, and improve construction efficiency from design through installation.

Built for Decades

  • Engineered for long-term durability with reduced maintenance and replacement over the life of the building.
  • Supports resilient, lower-carbon construction without compromising performance.
  • Helps owners, designers, and builders meet evolving expectations around lifecycle performance, resilience, and insurance risk.

Performs Where Gypsum Rots, OSB Burns, and Concrete Cracks.

MgO delivers the fire resistance, moisture durability, and long-term performance traditional building materials can't.

Construction Sequence

Step 1 – Prep

Confirm the floor framing is level, properly aligned and designed for the specified assembly. Plan the panel layout, framing spans and joint locations according to project requirements and TechBoard® T&G installation guidance.

Step 2 – Install

Fit the tongue-and-groove edges together to create tight, consistent joints, then fasten each panel to the wood or light-gauge steel framing using the specified fasteners and spacing. Panels can be measured and cut using familiar jobsite tools.

Step 3 – Finish

Check that joints are fully engaged and the completed surface is clean, secure and ready for the next layer. Install compatible membranes, adhesives, underlayments or finished flooring according to project specifications and the flooring manufacturer’s requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

TechBoard® T&G can be specified as an alternative to conventional OSB or plywood subfloor panels in compatible floor designs. It offers the added material benefits of magnesium cement, including resistance to fire, moisture, mold and pests. Suitability must be confirmed for the complete floor assembly, including framing spans, design loads, fastening and finished flooring requirements.

Magnesium cement will not rot, swell or delaminate like wood-based panels when exposed to moisture. This helps reduce the risk of uneven panels and damaged joints during construction or in moisture-prone environments. TechBoard® T&G is not a waterproofing layer, so required moisture protection, membranes and proper jobsite practices must still follow the floor design and local code requirements.

TechBoard® T&G can provide a durable base beneath compatible finishes such as tile, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and carpet. Some finishes may require an additional membrane, adhesive, underlayment or surface preparation. Always confirm compatibility and installation requirements with the flooring manufacturer and project design team.

The magnesium cement panel will not ignite or contribute fuel to a fire. When exposed to extreme heat, chemically bound water within the material is released as steam rather than smoke. Fire-resistance ratings apply to tested complete assemblies, not the board alone, so the framing, fasteners, floor finish and other assembly components must be evaluated together.

TechBoard® T&G is available across North America in a standard 3/4" panel format. Contact ZS2 with your project location, floor design and required quantity to confirm suitability, availability and technical requirements.

Built to Support Every Project.

From your first specification to the final installation, our team is here to make building with magnesium cement as straightforward as building with the materials you already know.
