Ontario and BC
Our very own Co-Founder and COO Kristin Davis is a finalist in the 2022 Women of Inspiration Awards!
We are so incredibly proud of Kristin and everything she has done for ZS2. Her drive, innovative thinking, and leadership skills are truly inspiring to everyone around her. ZS2 would not be the same without her!
The winner will be announced on Nov 5th at the Universal Womens Network™ | Women-Owned virtual event.
ZS2 Technologies is thrilled to announce our participation in the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo this year where we’ll play with fire, and demonstrate how to replace traditional building materials with ones that are smarter, safer, and stronger, and healthier for people and the planet.
With over 200 exhibitors Greenbuild brings together a variety of different companies focused on building a better future through unique building technologies.
We will be co-exhibiting with Falkbuilt, and you’ll find us at booth 1935. (Check out the floor plan here.)

ZS2 Top 3 - What You Need to Know
Our TechTalk digest this month will help you get up to speed on what’s important in the industry. Here are our top picks for October.
What's Trending: Green Building Codes
“When it comes to energy efficiency, most commercial buildings in Canada’s largest cities are behind the curve. In fact, many of these structures in Vancouver and Toronto predate modern building codes.
The modern building code is updated every four or five years and energy performance requirements have improved to have better energy performance. The modern code is still 50 years old, however, requirements around energy performance a the beginning weren’t very much, but now they’re more and more stringent. The current version of the code is quite advanced compared to the ‘70s.”
Source: Why Many of Canada’s Commercial Buildings are Set for a Green Retrofit
Canada is currently in the process of developing it’s ‘Green Building Strategy‘. A set of policies and action plans with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions nation wide, and climate resilient buildings sector by 2050. The short term goal would be to reduce carbon emissions by 37% (from 2005 levels) by 2030.
But there’s one catch: In 2030 more than 80% of Canada’s building stock will be made up of existing buildings still in operation.
That means, the majority of buildings in Canada will need to be updated in the next few decades.
We anticipate intense friction as developer groups, business owners and provinces scramble to navigate the building codes that apply to their situation; while simultaneously determining the most cost-efficient way to retrofit their units.
Our Design Lead, Shil Patel, has documented all the considerations a builder might need to think about in our latest blog: Green Building Codes: How to Comply with Sustainable Building Restrictions.
Shil goes over emerging energy codes for construction hugs such as Alberta, British Columbia and California, as well as where builders should start on their journey to tackling these updated codes.
If you’d like to prepare yourself for this global industry transformation, we implore you to read the full article as not only will this help future-proof your business, but provide you an edge over the competition in the carbon emissions race.
ZS2 Expanding to Ontario and BC
Interest in ZS2’s building solutions has been steadily rising in Canada, so it was high time we got some more boots on the ground to support our customers.
We’re excited to welcome John Tagle as Director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives for Eastern Canada (based in Toronto), and Mike Brown as Director of Business Development and Strategic initiatives for Western Canada (based in Nanaimo).
John Tagle, Director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives for Eastern Canada
John joins us from the world of insurance and risk management where he’s seen first hand the challenges builders are facing with keeping projects insured and moving forward.
Most recently John worked as Managing Partner at Annex Insurance Group, and we’re thrilled to have his expertise on board to help our Ontario clients build with ZS2’s technology.
Mike Brown, Director of Business Development and Strategic initiatives for Western Canada
Mike is a seasoned construction pro who most recently worked with Tilray as their Construction Manager and Senior Project Manager, specializing in new facility startups.
He brings a wealth of experience in vertical indoor agriculture to ZS2 and understands the pressures builders are facing with new building codes, supply challenges, and labour shortages.
We’re excited to have him take ZS2’s solutions to those challenges to our Western Canadian customers.
TechPanels Enhance Calgary Community
Another successful ZS2 TechPanel build took place in September in Calgary. The community of Elbow Park now has a new community facility that will house skating rink equipment, as well as a tennis court office, tournament room, and other storage spaces.
Fun fact: the roof will even have heaters to keep skaters warm as they lace up!
