Alberta cleantech companies partnering to create carbon neutral cement and accelerate industry leading lithium extraction
April 13, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta – ZS2 Technologies announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with LithiumBank to establish both carbon neutral cement and carbon neutral lithium extraction.
ZS2 will implement their proprietary Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology at LithiumBank’s Boardwalk Lithium Brine Project. The partnership also includes the extraction of magnesium and calcium from brines at the Boardwalk extraction site to be used in carbon neutral cement building products, manufactured at ZS2’s facility in Calgary, Alberta. and includes provisions for rapid scale up and deployment.

Highlights of the partnership include:
- Implementation of ZS2’s proprietary DAC technology to capture CO2 from LithiumBank’s Boardwalk operation
- LithiumBank will annually supply 25,000 cubic metres of magnesium and calcium rich brines to ZS2 for carbon neutral cement production
- The companies will pioneer the development of magnesium and calcium extraction technologies
- Establish the process of carbon neutral cement production from mineral extraction to CO2 sequestration, to commercialization
